Welcome to June, and welcome to PRIDE month!
Pride is a time when we celebrate living as our true selves. It is also a time to celebrate those who have paved the way forward in trying to access equality and inclusion for the LGBTQQIP2SAA community.
It has always been part of Triada’s mission as a clinic and healthcare space to offer an open, accepting environment where ALL people of our community can access healthcare without judgment or prejudice. This is especially important to one of our founders, Tracey, who is a proud member.
Did you know that almost half of our trans and non-binary community don’t receive adequate health care? In part due to the pervasive discrimination and resulting emotional trauma commonly encountered in our UNIVERSAL health care system. Members of our community often describe their negative experiences in healthcare specifically. They have shared how many health professionals make assumptions about their life, family, sexuality, and gender. This is damaging to them and impacts their comfort level when accessing healthcare.
Language IS important, understanding IS important, compassion IS important
Here at Triada Health Ottawa we never want that apprehension to be part of your experience. We are here to listen to you, and take care of you as you are. This is a safe space. All of our providers are members or allies of this community. If you feel that something has not been adequately addressed for you we are open to conversations and welcome corrections. Being a faithful ally means listening to the community’s concerns and being open to ongoing learning.
