Facial acupuncture is a natural way to support healthy skin, improve skin tone, and encourage a brighter, more refreshed appearance. It uses very fine needles to increase circulation, relax tight facial muscles, and support the body’s natural repair process. As a result, many people choose facial acupuncture as a gentle, non-invasive option for cosmetic and wellness care.
Facial acupuncture is part of a broader acupuncture treatment approach that supports circulation, muscle tension, and nervous system balance. At Triada Health Ottawa, treatments are calm, supportive, and tailored to your goals.
Facial Acupuncture for Tension, Circulation & Lymphatic Support
Facial acupuncture not only supports skin tone and appearance, but also helps reduce tension in the jaw, forehead, and facial muscles. By improving circulation and supporting lymphatic movement, treatments may help reduce puffiness, improve skin tone, and support a more relaxed and balanced appearance.
Because facial tension is often linked to stress and nervous system patterns, treatment also focuses on whole-body regulation to support longer-lasting results.
What Is Facial Acupuncture?
Facial acupuncture improves blood flow, reduces muscle tension, and encourages collagen production. It also helps support the nervous system, which can reduce stress-related jaw tension, headaches, and facial tightness.
Because the treatment works with the whole body, people often notice benefits such as improved relaxation, better sleep, and reduced stress.
How Facial Acupuncture Works
During treatment, very fine needles are placed on areas that support circulation, lymphatic flow, and facial muscle balance. This increases oxygen and nutrients to the skin, softens lines, and improves natural radiance.
In addition, needles placed on the body support digestion, sleep, hormones, and stress regulation. Since these systems influence the skin, whole-body treatment helps support lasting results.

Benefits of Facial Acupuncture
Facial acupuncture may help:
- Improve skin tone and brightness
- Reduce puffiness
- Relax jaw, brow, and overall facial tension.
- Support lymphatic drainage (see our lymphatic drainage massage options at Triada Health)
- Ease stress-related facial holding patterns
- Improve the appearance of fine lines
- Encourage collagen and healthy circulation
Because treatments feel calming, many people also report a sense of emotional ease.
What Your Treatment Might Look Like
Your session begins with a brief conversation about your health, stress levels, sleep, digestion, and skin goals. After this, you will relax on a treatment table while tiny needles are placed on your face and body.
Your treatment will begin with gentle facial cupping or gua sha to support circulation and nutrient delivery throughout the face and support lymphatic movement from the face and down the neck.
Next, small needles are placed to support the repair of fine lines and relax the facial muscles, helping to soften deeper lines and reduce muscle tension in the face. Your facial rejuvenation treatment will last 75 to 90 minutes. Every practitioner’s methods vary.
In addition to your facial treatment, our acupuncturists will then select points along the body for a more systemic treatment. This will help balance and boost the body while relaxing the mind, supporting the aging process. This is similar to your regular acupuncture sessions. If we’ve been addressing your sore knee or those nagging headaches in your regular sessions, we can still address these symptoms during your facial session.
How Often Are Treatments Recommended?
Facial acupuncture is typically performed as a treatment series. Many patients begin with weekly sessions, followed by bi-weekly or monthly treatments depending on their goals. However, some choose to use this treatment on an as-needed basis.
Maintenance treatments may be spaced out over time to help support long-term skin health, circulation, and muscle tone. This is not intended as an extreme intervention for skincare but rather as a gentle lift and boost of the face. All individuals are unique, and as a result, outcomes do vary.
